Stephen R. Adams

What ingredients combine to produce photographic fine art ?
How does a creative photographer observe ordinary, every day objects and perceive extraordinary compositions ?
What disciplines a photographer's eye to quickly capture fleeting moments of illuminated beauty ?

One set of answers can be found by considering the photography of Stephen R. Adams.

Steve is a professional architect and an emerging amateur photographer with the passion and ability to perceive the extraordinary in the ordinary. His busy architectural career and business travel for an international firm prevented him from devoting time to his life long passion for photography until recently. This time constraint vanished a few years ago when he accepted a staff position at the University of Maryland, College Park where his travel requirements were minimal and he was able to bring his interest in photography to fruition. His recent retirement hopefully will allow even greater development and promotion of his photographic art.

While at the university, Steve sharpened his dark room skills with several college courses. Then he received valuable critiques in classes and workshops at the Smithsonian Institution and The Maine Photographic Workshops. As a result, Steve has experienced success in local Maryland juried photography competitions and at local arts and crafts fairs. He now wants to explore the larger market available through the internet.

Steve's professional architectural experience resulted in a high sensitivity to light / shadow patterns, rich color combinations and textural contrasts. His highly trained eye is quick to capture fleeting moments of illuminated beauty before the scene vanishes, and to perceive fine art in abstract patterns. He has a special interest in shadow patterns that show intriguing changes with the passage of time and varying angles of sun light.

We hope you will enjoy his perceptions of the built and natural environments he has recorded in his photographs. And, hopefully his photographs will enhance your ability to perceive every day encounters as more beautiful experiences.
